Warning – the first few “very short stories” I wrote in April may be triggering. I’m still grieving the loss of my mama. I write in an effort to comfort the ever present void in my life due to her absence.
I look at photos of her smiling. When the doctor told mama she only had months to live, she kept it a secret. She didn't act like a #victim to cancer. She smiled in all of these photos where there should've been pain. I'll never know how. #vss365 #trueStory

One of the hardest parts was when mama lost her #voice. The tracheostomy took it and her mobility. It was only because I was already hard of hearing, that I knew how to read lips as if it were for this very purpose. To read her when she mouthed "I love you." #vss365 #trueStory

I've seen her casket lowered into the ground, right after I kissed her wig. Still, nothing seems to #verify this is real. I have her PJs, her earrings, an email containing her Thanksgiving recipes. I feel like she can still be here, even if only in my ❤. #vss365 #trueStory

Our family meeting us on the boardwalk. Tugging my mom toward a flea market bc she was cold, so we aimed for hoodies. "These look like the ones you like," I said. The dream was so #vivid, that when I woke up, I could still feel her arm in mine. So I cried. #vss365 #trueStory

Grackle's roar felt like a stun grenade went off. Bells pierced her ears, the sound rumbling in her bones. When he charged toward the humans, never had Ambriel witnessed such #violence. They never should've hurt someone Grackle cared about. That was their mistake. #vss365

Ruth decided it was time to tell Ben everything. The miscarriage that secretly ended their high school relationship. How she's always loved him since, no matter the years. But Ben smiled when she tried for words. All that came out was word #vomit. Damn his pretty face. #vss365

Ashmen. Foreigners, dark and fair. Sworn men. From the stern to the bow of their ships, they bellow songs of conquest & trade wearing silver pendants. #Vikings – seeking to write their undying legends into the seabed. #vss365 pic.twitter.com/quFkCtKd7f

"I don't underst- what do you have against Eden?" "I've seen Eden, Ambriel & trust me, it's not the place for you." Grackle could not have been any more #vague. Ambri on the verge of tears, Grackle offered his hand, eyes pleading. "Come with me." "Where?" "To the truth." #vss365
